       Subject: High Desert Classic Tournament

      Dear Coaches:

Welcome to the Twenty-fifth Albuquerque Invitational and Fourteenth Wooden Bat High Desert Classic Tournament, which began 1986.  This Wood Bat Tournament is steep in traditions of team excellence, good sportsmanship, and fair play.  All have been and are the foundations for our tournament.   Congratulations on attending.

The High Desert Classic, this year will be a Forty-four team event with teams representing Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Texas.  Teams are seated to eliminate competition between teams from the same area to the maximum extent possible, and for teams that have faced each in the round robins other than the championship rounds on Sunday.  Teams hosting will be given preference to stay at there home fields, to facilitate field operations.  Remember, you need to bring baseballs D-1 quality, coaches helmets, and of course wooden bats.

The Tournament will start on Thursday, July 7th, at 2:00 p.m. and conclude Sunday, July 10th, with a championship games at 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., with each team being guaranteed five games, weather permitting.  The first three games are in a round-robin format to determine seating for the next round of competition.  The teams are separated into groups based on their records within round-robin play.  The teams with the best records within there groups will be seated into a 32-team bracket.  All teams participating in the 32-team bracket have the opportunity to play eight games to determine a true divisional champion.  The 32-Team bracket becomes a single elimination bracket with a consolation game on Saturday, to afford all teams to play two games on Saturday.  All Teams advancing to Sunday must win both games on Saturday.

In the 12-Team bracket, after Saturday’s competition, a team with a loss in the second round, but with the best over all record will be selected to complete the field of four teams playing at 9:00 a.m. to play in the championship game at 1:00 p.m.

The Hyatt Regency is the host hotel located at Second and Tijeras.  We will have a meeting Thursday morning at 9:00 am at the host hotel, as well as the scheduling Friday night.
