PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT COMMITTEE of MRCOG

Report for District 4 Coalition of Neighborhood Associations

Wednesday, 15 Nov. 2006

Clifford Richardson, PE, Chair & rep for Dist 4

At the last PIC meeting, members suggested that we schedule several public meetings to gather response on the Public Review Working Draft of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP).

The PIC, in its efforts to reach as many citizens as possible, has proposed the following tentative schedule to follow the Nov. 16th MTB (MRCOG policy makers) meeting

Nov. 18th Sat. Meeting

Nov. 29th Daytime Meeting

Nov. 30th Daytime Meeting

Nov. 30th Thurs. Evening Meeting

Dec. 2nd Sat.  Meeting

Dec. 7th PIC/Thurs. Evening Meeting

At each meeting, the Public Review Working Draft will be presented.  Public response will be solicited:  Are we addressing the public’s concerns? Are the options we are suggesting viable?  Are there any really good ideas in the Draft?  Any really bad ideas?

Comments for us might address the Draft’s content, form or anything in the Working Draft at all.  PIC members will participate in these meetings.  The structure of those interactions is being designed with staff help.

If you have any further questions related to this public outreach, feel free to contact me at:  Clifford.Richardson@Kirtland.af.mil or 846-4633.

The PIC, at the Oct. meeting, had been continuing its efforts to review its role as well as its membership in accordance with the April extensive mandatory Federal recertification of MRCOG.  The final recommendations strongly emphasized MRCOG’s need to increase its public outreach.  As the citizen advisory board, the PIC’s role can facilitate MRCOG’s need to solicit public input.  This means the PIC can expand its efforts in order to accommodate this finding.

These series of meetings we’re proposing is a major step in expanding PIC’s work.
